More young people to return to Island youth clubs

12 April 2021

From this week, and in line with the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, Jersey Youth Service can welcome back more children and young people to the Island’s youth clubs

Since October 2020, the number of young people able to attend a youth club has been capped at 20, in line with public health guidance on gatherings. Parents and young people have had to register before attending, to ensure the limit is not exceeded.

From today, the cap will no longer apply, and young people will not need to register to attend a session.

Since October 2020, the Youth Service has increased, in line with those used in schools, including:

  • Various risk assessments developed for safer opening of youth clubs
  • Enhanced cleaning and hygiene measures
  • Maintaining social distancing wherever possible
  • Hand hygiene at the point of entry
  • Children and young people following the same guidance on wearing mouth and nose coverings as they do in school
  • All children, young people and staff providing contact details for contract tracing purposes
Principal Youth Officer, Mark Capern, said: “I’m so pleased that we can open our youth clubs to more young people. So many children and young people have had an incredibly difficult year, and youth clubs provide vital support to their overall wellbeing.

“This means we can help more young people to spend time their friends outside of school and offer them somewhere to go, something to do, and – most importantly – someone to speak with about their concerns.”
