Part 9: transmission of sound

​This document contains:
  • general guidance on the performance expected of materials and building work in order to comply with the requirements in Part 9 of the second schedule to the building bye-laws; and 
  • practical examples and solutions on how to achieve compliance for some of the more common building situations

Document 9: resistance to transmission of sound, approved document E (2003 edition) provides information on sound insulation requirements in dwelling-houses, flats, rooms for residential use and schools. These requirements not only cover party walls, but also internal walls and floors, and common areas within flats and rooms for residential uses.
