Increase in underground electricity cable damage

05 January 2016

Damage to live underground electrical cables is increasing, as identified by the number of damage reports notified to the Inspectorate in 2015.

In order to avoid danger, employers must ensure a safe system of work is in place to reduce the risks and to comply with legal requirements.

Guidance for work in the vicinity of underground cables and other utilities is available in the article on the increase in underground cable damage and the recently revised ‘yellow booklet’.
