Family Food and Fitness

​​​​​​​About the programme

Family, Food and Fitness is a programme helping families have a healthier lifestyle.

It’s free and lasts 12 weeks.​

You can join if you’re a family with children aged 5 to 11 in primary school and above a healthy weight.

Our programme is family focused and designed to:

  • support you and your family adopt healthy habits to last a lifetime
  • explore the importance of healthy food choices and take part in fun physical activities

After you apply, the Public Health Dietitian will contact you and advise if your child is eligible to join.

Apply to join

You can apply to join the programme if you’re a:

  • parent or guardian of a child who is above the expected weight range for their age, sex and height​
  • healthcare professional referring a family

What to expect

We run the programme at certain times throughout the year.

There are 2 sessions per week:

  • 4pm to 5pm on Monday or Saturday mornings at various sports centres
  • 4pm to 6pm on Tuesday at Haute Vallée School

Sessions include:

  • games and physical activity
  • guided cooking sessions together
  • learning about healthy eating and healthy habits
  • advice on building self-esteem 
  • advice on food and emotions 
  • behaviour change support

We’ll also guide you on other free and low-cost physical activity opportunities found on Island. 

Our sessions are run by our:

  • Dietitian and Nutritionist
  • Physical Activity Instructor
  • Psychologist 

You’ll meet other families and support each other on your health and wellbeing journey together.

We are always available to answer your questions and offer support.

Keep a food diary

Monitoring your eating habits in a food diary will help you to:

  • become more aware of your eating patterns
  • achieve better outcomes with your weight management

It will also help our team tailor our advice to you and your family.

You shouldn’t worry too much about what the results look like. Just be honest with yourself. This will help you take the first steps to make more conscious food choices so that you're eating well for your health.
