We hold regular events from craft activities to author talks.

Events are mostly held at the Town Library, but some can be at Communicare.

Special events

Unearthed: The Power of Gardening Exhibition

Visit the Town Library to explore the Unearthed Exhibition and paper flower display on the power of gardening throughout June and July. Get involved in this gardening exhibition by coming to the town library or attend any of the events below. Alternatively, you can pick up a programme at any of the libraries.

This exhibition is in coordination with the British Library Living Knowledge Network.

Booking may be required for some of the events through Ticketsource.

Wednesday 11 June 6pm to 7pm	Gardening quiz	Play in a team of up to 4 in this gardening quiz for a chance to win. No need to be a pro-gardener, as the questions vary from fictional books to food and guessing the flower picture rounds. Friday 13 June 10am to 12pm	Creative Fridays: laser cutting garden plant markers	Come along to our Makerspace to learn how to use our laser cutter. You will have the chance to design and take home your very own plant marker. Age 10 and over. £2 per plant sign. £6 for 4 sign markers. Payment to be made on the day. Friday 13 June 1pm to 2pm	Growing a Greener Future talk	Learn about Jersey Trees for Life’s winter planting campaign and how you can get involved in growing a greener future for Jersey. Book this event	The Workspace, Town Library
Saturday 14 June All day event	I spy scavenger hunt	Hunt around the library garden to find all of the hidden garden related pictures to complete the challenge.	The Garden, Communicare Library
Thursday 19 June 1pm to 2pm	Jersey Bat Group talk	What can you do to help bats, and why would you? In this talk you will learn a little about a year in the life of a Jersey bat, how they contribute to a healthy environment and how, as a gardener, you can do your bit to help them survive and thrive. Thursday 19 June 6pm to 7pm	Sheena Brockie from GROW talk	Join Sheena as she discusses how GROW, a community organisation, helps those in need by growing food and teaching others about gardening. Friday 20 June 10am to 12pm	Creative Fridays: botanic past in the present	Explore our local studies collection of gardens and botanic plants around Jersey. Join us to discuss the rich history of the island’s gardens. Age 16 and over.	The Workspace, Town Library
Saturday 21 June 10am to 11am	Flower press workshop	Come along and spend time with Emma making flower pressed cards. Emma will talk you through flowers that press well, give you tips for avoiding your flowers turning brown and techniques for making your own artwork. We will practice these by making 2 cards, either freestyle or with templates. A selection of Emma’s home-grown pressed flowers will be on offer for you to work with. Age 16 and over. Friday 4 July 1pm to 2pm	Potty Eco Pots talk	Meet Kalina as she discusses how Potty Eco Pots encourages gardening with free pick up and drop off points all over the island and how this helps the community. Book this event	The Workspace, Town Library
Saturday 5 July 11am to 1pm	Garden animals needle felting workshop	Join Cathryn Ward as she leads you in a workshop on creating garden animals through needle felting. This delicate and intricate skill is only a recent process believed to be invented in the 1980s. Age 18 and over. Book this event	The Workspace, Town Library
Friday 11 July 10am to 12pm	Creative Fridays: make your own terrarium	Design and create your very own plant terrarium in the library Makerspace. Create a little living ecosystem with a jar and watch it thrive afterwards. Age 10 and over. £10 per terrarium.	The Makerspace, Town Library

Poetry competition

Weekly events for under 5 years old

These events take place every week and during school holidays:

Baby Bounce and Rhyme. An interactive session with nursery rhymes, singing and a small play time after that includes a ball pit
Toddler Time. An engaging story-time session with nursery rhymes and a small play time after that includes Duplex building blocks
Rhythm, Rhyme and Storytime. A fun session with nursery rhymes, singing, stories and a small play session after that includes a ball pit. These sessions are at Communicare Library

Jèrriais stories and rhymes

Rînmes Rêjouis is an engaging session in Jèrriais for children aged 2 to 4 and includes:

stories
nursery rhymes and songs
interactive activities

Sessions are every Thursday 11am for 30 minutes during term time only. You don't need to book.

Rînmes Rêjouis is ran by the Jerriais Teaching Service to encourage an early appreciation of local culture and language through storytelling.

Clubs for 5 to 12 years old

Our clubs take place every week at the town library and are free.

You can come to as many sessions as you like and you don’t have to be a member.

We provide all equipment and parents can stay if they would like.

Wednesday, 3.30pm to 4.30pm	8 to 12 years old	Lego Club. Play and build with Lego. There're fun challenges every week to try.

Adult activities and groups

Creative Fridays

Come every Friday 10am to 12pm to get creative, have a coffee or tea and meet people.

You need to be aged 16 and over. You don’t need to book.

Crochet and knit takes place every first Friday of the month and mindful colouring is on the fourth Friday. Activities change in other weeks.

Adult Lego Club

Our Adult Lego Club takes place every Wednesday evening from 6pm to 8pm in the Workspace, at the Town Library.

No booking is required and Lego is provided.

You need to be aged 18 and over.

Reading Group

Our reading group meets the last Thursday of every month to talk about and share opinions on the book of the month.

The next meeting is Thursday 26 June 2.30pm. We'll be be discussing any book by Sharon Bolton.

You need to be aged 18 and over.

Therapy Dogs Nationwide sessions

Therapy Dogs Nationwide is a national charity with volunteers who take their own dogs into organisations and buildings. This gives you and your family a chance to meet a dog who can bring you comfort, distraction and stimulation.

The temperament of all Therapy Dogs have been tested so they are calm, friendly and safe.

At Communicare in St Brelade, sessions are every Saturday 10.30am to 11.30am.
