Bats, buildings and the law

Bats are increasingly using buildings for roosting because natural sites in tree holes and caves have become more scarce or disturbed.

All buildings are potential roost sites, in particular their:

  • walls
  • eaves
  • roofs

Anyone working regularly in these areas should be aware of what signs to look out for and how to work within the law, such as:

  • surveyors
  • architects
  • plumbers
  • roofers
  • pest technicians
  • insulators

If you would like further information about bats and how they are treated by law, download our leaflet.
