If you need support after experiencing or witnessing violence, abuse or crime, the victim support services below can help you.

The States of Jersey Police work to make Jersey a safer place to live. 

If you're a victim of or a witness to a crime, you should call them to report it.

In an emergency dial 999.

If you've been a victim of crime and don’t feel ready to report it you can contact Victims First Jersey. They will talk over your options with you.

Single Point of Referral (SPOR)

Single Point of Referral for Adult Social Services provide one-point of contact to raise concerns about the immediate and urgent safety or welfare of an adult.

Victims First Jersey

Victims First Jersey offers support to anyone affected by crime, including both victims and witnesses.

The service provides emotional and practical assistance to help individuals whether or not the crime has been reported to the Police.

Support is available throughout the criminal justice process, including:

  • guidance for attending court
  • information about what to expect during proceedings
  • someone to accompany individuals on the day of the trial

Specialist support is available for young people, ensuring their needs are understood and met throughout their court experience. ​

FREEDA

FREEDA, formerly known as Jersey Women’s Refuge, helps any woman who has been affected by domestic abuse. 

Domestic abuse is any form of physical, emotional, financial or sexual abuse which is used to gain power and control over another person in an intimate relationship.

FREEDA has both outreach workers and a safe house.

The outreach workers work in the community and you can meet with them to get support regarding the domestic abuse. They will never force you to do anything if you're not ready, instead they focus on empowering you to recognise that you can move on and they will support you if you choose to stay in the relationship or if you choose to leave.

Freeda (Free from Domestic Abuse)

Jersey Domestic Abuse Service (JDAS)

Jersey Domestic Abuse Support is an independent public service developed to protect and support victims of domestic and sexual abuse.

Their qualified caseworkers provide support and advice to develop long-term safety solutions for men, women and children, and include:

  • Independent Domestic Violence Advisors (IDVA's)
  • Independent Sexual Violence Advisors (ISVA's)

​Dewberry House Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC)

Dewberry House, Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) is a public service that provides comprehensive support to anyone who has experienced sexual assault or abuse, regardless of when it happened or whether they choose to report it to the police.

Services include:

  • forensic medical examinations if the person wishes and it's appropriate
  • emotional support and crisis intervention
  • information about legal options and support through the criminal justice process
  • referrals to other relevant support services

Dewberry House is designed to be safe and supportive environment where trained professionals help individuals make informed decisions about their care and next steps.

Jersey Action Against Rape (JAAR)

Jersey Action Against Rape (JAAR) is a specialised charity that provides free and confidential support and to anyone affected by sexual violence, regardless of when it happened. Their services include:

  • Therapeutic Support: Professional counselling and therapy for survivors of sexual violence and their families
  • Helpline Services: A confidential helpline, and email offering emotional support and guidance
  • Education and Training: Awareness campaigns, workshops, and training sessions to educate the community and professionals about sexual violence and prevention

Jersey Action Against Rape (JAAR)

NSPCC Jersey

The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) are a specialist child sexual abuse service who offer direct support to children and their families and work to raise awareness with professionals and the wider community to enable everyone to understand, support and protect children.

Children and Families Hub

The Children and Families Hub is a public service which provides information, advice and support for families and young people. Their aim is to make sure you get the right help, at the right time. This could be some advice on the telephone or a one-to-one consultation, putting you in touch with any services that can help.

​The Hub also responds to any safeguarding concerns you may have for a child or young person.

Housing Advisory Service

The Housing Advice Service provides information, advice and support for islanders around all aspects of housing.

They work closely with Freeda and JDAS to support their clients access suitable housing.

Citizen's Advice is a charity that gives independent, confidential and impartial advice to islanders seeking support for a variety of causes and reasons. They advocate for people’s rights, promoting equality and justice for all.

Shelter Trust

The Shelter Trust is the leading provider of accommodation and support services for the homeless community in Jersey.

The Trust provides accommodation, food, support and encouragement for around 100 people per night at four sites in and around St Helier.

Mind Jersey

Mind Jersey is an independent, UK accredited, local charity that provides support to individuals and families living with mental illness. Their vision is of a society that promotes and protects good mental health for all and that treats people with experience of mental illness fairly, positively and with respect. Services include peer support, training, residential, counselling, Nearly New Shop, children and family support, and the drop-in centre.

Liberate

Liberate is the Channel Island's equality and diversity charity. Liberate offers free counselling to anyone from a minority grou​p in Jersey who is experiencing poor mental health.

Counselling Support on Liberate

Psychological Services

The Psychology Service offer talking and listening based therapies to help deal with a range of emotional difficulties, including depression, stress and anxiety. Sometimes, the therapy can include physical activity too.

The service is accessed by referral only, usually from your GP, however some other agencies, such as Victim Support, can offer a referral too. 

There is an approximately 8 week waiting list for an appointment at the service, but you can receive support from the Women’s Refuge or Victim Support as well as having a referral to psychology.

Getting support from your Doctor

Your GP can provide a wealth of support to you, not just by offering appropriate medication and treating physical injuries but by listening to you too. They are also likely to be aware of many of the services mentioned here and can make a referral to them if you wish.
