Caravans and motorhomes in Jersey

​​​​​​Visiting caravans and motorhomes

Visitors wishing to bring a caravan or motorhome to the Island can do so provided:

  • the caravan / motorhome stays on a registered campsite
  • the relevant permit is sought from the campsite prior to arrival in the Island
  • a letter of authority is obtained from the Department of the Environment prior to arrival in the Island

Are there any other restrictions?

  • caravans are restricted to one journey to and one journey from the campsite to the port while in the Island
  • caravans must remain on the designated site for the period of the permit
  • motorhomes can be driven on the roads providing they return to the designated campsite each night (drivers should be aware that many of Jersey's roads are narrow and may have limited access)
  • the maximum stay at any Jersey campsite is 31 days per caravan / motorhome
  • the maximum permissible width of a motorhome or towed caravan, including the towing vehicle, is 2.3m (this includes any fitting on or attached to the vehicle, but excludes mirrors and indicators)
  • the maximum permissible overall length of a towed caravan, not including the "A" frame or tow hitch, is 6.7m
  • the maximum permissible overall length of a caravan and its towing vehicle is 16.5m, this includes any projection to the front and rear of the vehicle
  • the maximum permissible overall length of a motorhome is 9.3m

There are five campsites in Jersey that can accommodate caravans and motorhomes:

  • Daisy Cottage Campsite
  • Jersey Accommodation and Activity Centre
  • Hideaway Motorhome Stopover

Visitors should note that Jersey campsites do not have 'drive over' drains for black water sewage.

Buying a caravan or motorhome

Jersey residents wishing to buy a new or second-hand caravan or motorhome should be aware that:

  • you are not permitted to use your motorhome / caravan for habitable purposes while it is in the Island
  • you can park your motorhome in any responsible location
  • you can only park a caravan out of sight of a main road
  • it is a requirement under the Planning and Building Law for all caravans / motorhomes to have a permit

Newly imported caravans / motorhomes

  • newly imported motorhomes and caravans will only be allowed to enter the Island if they are accompanied by a letter of authority from the Department of the Environment
  • motorhomes must be re-registered at the Driver and Vehicle Standards office (DVS) as soon as possible after entering the Island

So that revised permit and registration documents can be issued, changes in ownership, name and / or address must be reported to:

  • Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS), and
  • Department of the Environment
