Keeping, exchanging or requesting vehicle registration marks

​​Request a vehicle registration mark

You can request a specific registration mark using the form below.

You’ll need to pay £250 to purchase the mark right and £95 to assign the mark to a Jersey registered vehicle. 

If it’s a new and unregistered vehicle, you’ll only need to pay £31 to assign the mark.

Four digit registration marks

A limited number of four digit registration marks will be made available periodically at the discretion of the Inspector of Motor Traffic. 

They will be priced at £2,500 each and the available marks will appear on the online search facility.

After you have submitted the form, you’ll need to pay for the registration mark. 

We will contact you in order to take payment by card over the phone. 

If you submit your request during office hours (8.30am to 4pm) we will try and contact you the same day. 

If you submit it outside of office hours, we will try to contact you on the next working day.

Request Registration Mark

Who owns registration marks

Registration marks are the property of the States of Jersey.

However, the Inspector of Motor Traffic may allow the exchange or retention of registration mark(s) in the following circumstances.

Retention of a registration mark

You may want to keep a registration mark if your vehicle is being:

  • permanently exported
  • destroyed
  • scrapped or broken up
  • sold

The registered owner of a motor vehicle may retain the use of a registration mark (for his or her own use) for a period of six months.This can be extended for a further six months for a fee of £95

Application to retain the use of a registration mark

The application form (VRD 28) is available at Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS) and must accompany the notification of permanent export, scrapping etc. which can be found on the rear of your vehicle registration document.

A fee of £95 is charged for retaining a registration mark. 

Application to exchange registration marks

You will need to complete form (VRD 28) and submit it to Driver and Vehicle Standards (DVS) along with the registration documents for both vehicles and the fee of £95 per vehicle

Registration marks may only be exchanged between the registered owners of Jersey registered vehicles.
