About the project
Broad Street phase 1 includes the development of the Grande Rue district.
Our aim is to:
- prioritise walking and create more comfortable routes for pedestrians
- enhance the areas character, identity and greening
- create an appealing space for business and visitors
Phase 1 will include:
- pedestrian priority area with quality paving throughout and a flush walking space
- bespoke furniture for biodiversity planting areas and opportunities for varied seating, incorporating details that reference local history and identity
- new lighting and more efficient use of other street furniture
It will create a gateway to the future Broad Street space and will function as a gateway, including:
- reduced access width will allow two-way cycling
- morning deliveries until 10am

Schedule of work
Construction activities will avoid high summer and Christmas peak retail periods wherever possible.

Access for Phase 1
Pedestrian access to all businesses and premises will be maintained during the works.
Cyclists will need to dismount to pass the works areas.
For deliveries and operational needs within Broad Street, temporary unloading arrangements will be provided.

Phase 1 deliveries access plan
Bus diversions
The following outbound bus diversions will be in place for all phases of the project.
Diversions will be in place for routes:
- 5 (St John’s Church)
- 19 (La Pouquelaye)
- 20 (TownLink)
- 24 (Grand Vaux)
They will divert via:
- Esplanade
- Castle Street. A new stop on Rue des Mielles (4695) will be created
- La Rue des Mielles
- Anley Street
- Seaton Place
- Seale Street
Rejoining existing route on York Street, with a new stop at St Helier Town Hall (4653) being created.
An inbound bus stop for routes 20 and 24 will also be created on Mulcaster Street opposite Church Street.
