About the upgrade
We’re delivering a major upgrade to the drainage network in St Peter’s Village to meet current and future demands.
The upgrade is split into 2 key projects:
- Sewer Network Upgrades, from July 2025 to March 2026
- Strategic Storage Tank, from September 2025 to early 2027
Why it’s needed
As Jersey grows, so does the demand on its infrastructure.
With new homes being built and heavier rainfall linked to climate change, our drainage systems must evolve to cope. In St Peter’s Village, the existing sewer network is already operating at full capacity. To protect homes, businesses, and the environment, the Government of Jersey’s Infrastructure and Environment department is delivering a major upgrade to the area’s drainage network.
This will support planned and future development, reduce flood risk, and build resilience into our wider Island infrastructure.
Benefits for St Peter’s and the Island
This upgrade in St Peter is part of a broader commitment to ensuring our Island is protected, connected and prepared for the decades ahead.
Benefits include:
- investment in long-term Island infrastructure, strengthening services that benefit all Islanders
- support for housing and infrastructure growth, enabling sustainable development without compromising public services
- reduced risk of flooding, protecting properties, public spaces and the natural environment
Project details
Sewer Network Upgrades Project (July 2025 to March 2026)
The existing foul water sewers will be replaced with larger diameter pipes to accommodate increased flows. This will ensure that the system can serve current and future demands.
Full road closures will be required during construction because the existing pipes are buried beneath the centreline of roads. To minimise disruption, the project will be delivered in carefully planned phases.
Access for residents and businesses will be maintained throughout.

Strategic Storage Tank Project (September 2025 to early 2027)
A new underground tank will be constructed to temporarily store combined sewer flow during periods of heavy rainfall. This will help prevent surface flooding and pollution incidents into the environment.
The 6,100-metre cubed tank will connect to the drainage network downstream of the planned upgrades. It’ll store excess flows and release them safely once capacity returns. Construction will take place in field P765 and connect into the existing system via La Rue de St Clement.
We’ll continue to provide regular updates to the neighbouring properties of Field P765.
