Sector-specific training and initiatives

​About sector specific training and initiatives

Skills Jersey is able to support initiatives and training that reduce skills shortages or reliance on registered staff by: 

  • upskilling current entitled or entitled for work staff 
  • attracting more entitled or entitled for work people into the industry 

Funding will not be given for basic mandatory training, for example:

  • food hygiene
  • manual handling
  • safeguarding training

Who can apply

The following groups can make applications for funding: 

  • industry bodies
  • organisations who work with or represent many businesses 
  • individual businesses showing benefit in the training or initiative for other businesses in their sector

All training or initiatives in receipt of funding must be open to other businesses.

Application requirements

To apply for funding you must provide a breakdown showing the cost of each individual element:

  • trainer cost, including breakdown of hours
  • venue hire
  • accreditation
  • equipment hire 
  • travel and accommodation

Note that any request for support with marketing or administration costs can only be considered if itemised in detail.

A brief summary of why you selected this training or service provider. This should include considerations of: 

  • price
  • quality 
  • testimonials from other people
  • if not a local based provider, justification of why this isn’t the provider 
  • if likely to be an ongoing service, evidence of how this could become sustainable on Island

After you apply

The funding review panel will assess the application for funding against the funding criteria and will be looking at the following in particular:

  • a skills shortage exists
  • evidence of attracting more entitled or entitled for work people into the industry
  • evidence of upskilling current entitled or entitled for work staff
  • the delivery partner chosen evidenced as being most cost effective or value for money
  • evidence of satisfactory performance or review measures
