Subsidised training courses
Skills Jersey partners with local businesses and industry sectors across the island to identify key skills priorities, helping to guide how the Skills Development Scheme subsidy is allocated.
A skills gap is the difference between the skills that employers need or expect from workers and the skills that workers currently possess. It can occur in various industries and is often seen as a barrier to economic growth, productivity, and innovation. By closing skills gaps, Jersey’s economy can better align their workforce with industry demands, driving innovation, competitiveness, and growth.
Skills gaps can occur due to rapid technological change, education misalignment, demographic shifts or as an impact of economic and global trends.
Skills Jersey identifies skills gaps and explores the training and courses to address these, by employing a multi-faceted approach. This includes:
Labour Market Analysis
- Analysing economic data and industry trends to determine which sectors are growing and where skill shortages are emerging
- Reviewing job vacancy statistics, unemployment figures, and workforce participation rates
Employer Engagement
- Collaborating with businesses and industry bodies to gather insights into the skills they need
- Regular focus groups, and interviews with employers to identify gaps between current workforce capabilities and market needs
Education and Training Provider Collaboration
- Collaborating with providers to gain insights into the skills demands they are seeing
- Regular engagement to review identified gaps and find effective solutions to address them
Community and Individual Input
- Skills Jersey’s Careers Guidance team feedback on the individual skills gaps identified through their frontline service delivery
- Skills Jersey’s Mentoring team collect input from clients about their experiences and future aspirations
Based on the information gathered from the points above, a list of key skills priorities for the Skills Development Scheme is compiled and reviewed annually by the Government.
Following this review, relevant training resources and courses are arranged. Once applications open, these courses will be advertised on this page.
