Changes to the state pension age

Women who joined the Jersey Social Security scheme before 1 January 1975

Women who fall into this category will continue to be able to claim a pension when they reach the age of 60.

For women who joined the scheme after 1 January 1975, the age when you can claim your Jersey Social Security pension has increased.

The changes only affect you if you were born on or after 1 January 1955.

How the changes will affect you

Under the changes: 

  • women who joined the Jersey Social Security scheme before 1 January 1975 will continue to be able to claim a pension when they reach the age of 60

  • the current pension age of 65 will increase by two months in every 10 months from 2020, until it reaches 67 in 2031

  • the number of years’ contributions needed for a full pension will rise from 45 to 47 over the same period​

  • the age that a reduced pension can be paid will move up in line with the changes to the pension age 

  • the age a non paying election can be taken will move up in line with the changes to the pension age
