Changes to the state pension age

The age when you can claim your Jersey Social Security pension has increased.

The changes only affect you if you were born on or after 1 January 1955.

Women who joined the Jersey Social Security scheme before 1 January 1975 will continue to be able to claim a pension when they reach the age of 60.

How the changes will affect you

Under the changes: 

  • the current pension age of 65 will increase by two months in every 10 months from 2020, until it reaches 67 in 2031
  • the number of years’ contributions needed for a full pension will rise from 45 to 47 over the same period​
  • the age that a reduced pension can be paid will move up in line with the changes to the pension age 
  • women who joined the Jersey Social Security scheme before 1 January 1975 will continue to be able to claim a pension when they reach the age of 60
  • the age a non paying election can be taken will move up in line with the changes to the pension age
