About the Pension Plus scheme
Pension Plus is a government funded scheme to help lower-income pensioners who have reached
pensionable age with the costs of:
The scheme is administered by Employment, Social Security and Housing.
Who is eligible for Pension Plus
You can apply for Pension Plus if:
you (and your partner) do not pay Jersey income tax
you (and your partner) have capital assets less than £64,000
We do not include the home you live in as part of your capital assets, but we do include:

Optical, dental and chiropody costs and what you can claim for
On Pension Plus, you'll be entitled to the following financial support:
Optical
- every 2 years, up to £55 towards an eye test
- every 2 years, up to £165 towards new prescription glasses, lenses or contact lenses
Dental
- every year, up to £55 towards dental check-up
- every 4 years, up to £1,900 towards dental treatments or dentures
Chiropody
- every year, up to £165 towards the cost of chiropody treatment from a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered chiropodist
You cannot claim for missed or cancelled appointments.
What you can and cannot claim for on Pension Plus
Dental | • dentist • dental hygienist for dental hygiene care, scale and polish, (other services provided by a dental hygienist are not covered by the scheme) • denture repair laboratory (for repairs or dentures prescribed by a dentist)

Depending on your circumstances, funding may be available for:
- prescriptions and medication
- mouth cancer treatments

How to make a claimYou must have received a confirmation letter from us to let you know that you’ve been accepted onto the scheme before you make a claim.
You no longer have to pay for your treatment upfront.
To use Pension Plus, follow these steps:
- make an appointment with your optician, dentist or chiropodist
- tell your practitioner that you are a Pension Plus member or tell us who your practitioners are
- check how much the services will cost
- ask your practitioner how much available benefit you have in Pension Plus and how much you will need to pay
- receive your treatment
- your practitioner will invoice us up to your level of available benefit
- pay for any costs not covered by your benefit
Further details are available in your confirmation letter. You cannot claim for missed or cancelled appointments.
You must tell us if your circumstances change and you are no longer eligible for the scheme.
Claiming for treatment you've had before joining the scheme
You can't make a claim for treatment you have had before your registration has been confirmed.
Health Access Scheme
If you qualify for Pension Plus, you will be covered by the
Health Access Scheme. Under the scheme most appointments with a doctor or nurse in General Practice will be charged at fixed, low fees.
Other help for low-income pensioners
Income Support is an income-related benefit that provides financial support towards the costs of:
- housing
- living
- medical needs
- childcare
Carers also receive support.
You might also qualify for the Community Costs Bonus and Cold Weather Bonus.

If you disagree with a decision about your Pension Plus benefits
If you're a member of Pension Plus and you disagree with our decision about the payment of your benefit, you may be able to appeal this decision.
If you think a Social Security decision is wrong
Practitioners
Tell us your preferred dentist, optician and chiropodist from this list before you book an appointment. We can only pay for services from members.
