Esplanade carriageway reconstruction work

About the project

As part of the ongoing highway maintenance by Infrastructure and Environment, the Esplanade’s carriageway is being reconstructed between the junction with Gloucester Street and the junction with Peirson Road.

The project is split into 4 sections and each section will be constructed during the school holidays. To minimise the disruption to traffic 2 lanes in each direction will remain open during the project.

We will implement a contra-flow system and provide diversions within the local area. The contra-flow system will be implemented and will remain in place 24 hours a day for the duration of the project.

Diversion route

Due to the contra-flow system, all traffic is prohibited from turning right from the Esplanades westbound carriageway on to Kensington Place, Peirson Road, or to la Route de St Aubin (St Aubin's inner road).

As a result diversions are in place to maintain access. These diversions are as follows

Diversion Route 1 (For Kensington Road, Peirson Road, or to la Route de St Aubin)

The diversion is along Victoria Avenue to First Tower and right turn on to la Route de St Aubin (St Aubin's inner road) back on to the esplanade for Kensington Place/Peirson Road, Cheapside, The Parade and Gloucester Street.

Diversion Route 2 (Patriotic Street car park)

The diversion route to Patriotic Street and the General Hospital when coming from the east is Route du Fort, Route de la Liberation, Castle Street roundabout, Castle Street, Esplanade, Anley Street, Seaton Place, Patriotic Place.
