Triple P Programme

Triple P Programme

The programme offers ideas to help deal with the big and small parenting challenges that are part of family life. Triple P does not tell you how to be a parent but offers a range of strategies for you to choose the ones that fit your family.

Triple P Positive Parenting programs help you:

  • builds a positive relationship between you and your child
  • raise happy, confident children and teenagers
  • manage behaviour in a positive way
  • set family rules and routines that everyone follows
  • get along better with your children or teenagers
  • balance work and family commitments

We aim to help parents and carers of children and teenagers up to 18 years. We also deliver a programme for parents and carers of children with special needs.

How to book onto a programme

Our current timetable of events is detailed below and is frequently updated.

You can choose to attend at a time and location that suits you, even if the session is being held at a school your child does not attend. If you would like to attend one of these events, email us or call us on +44 (0) 1534 449481.

Triple P seminars

Triple P seminars are an introduction to positive parenting. Each seminar lasts 90 minutes and with time to ask questions at the end. A take away tip sheet will be available.

Triple P discussion groups

A discussion group is a short, small group session run by a trained Triple P practitioner.

Each session lasts about 2 hours and brings together a maximum of 10 to 12 parents who maybe experiencing similar parenting issues. In a session, your practitioner will give you tips and suggestions for dealing with your child’s behaviour.

You’ll see short video clips showing other parents successfully dealing with the same issue and you’ll be encouraged to share your thoughts with the other parents in the group, if you wish to. You’ll also be given a workbook with simple exercises and information to help you try your new strategies at home.

Triple P group programmes

In addition to the seminars and discussion groups listed above we also offer larger group sessions held over a number of weeks. These cover the age ranges of 0 to 12 years, 12 to 18 years and children with additional needs.

Under 11 years old group

Group Triple P is a 7-week programme for parents of children aged 0 to 12 years. This programme is for parents who want support in the following areas:

  • building positive relationships
  • improving on communications
  • encouraging good behaviour
  • managing problem behaviours when they happen.

There will be 4 group sessions where we meet for 2 hours, then 3 telephone calls, followed by a final group session.

Teen group Triple P

Teen Triple P is a 7-week programme for parents of teenagers aged 12 to 18 years. This programme is for parents who want support in the following areas:

  • staying connected as they grow older
  • dealing with risky behaviour  and implementing routines
  • teaching teenagers life skills as they become young adults.

There will be 4 group sessions where we meet for 2 hours, then 3 telephone calls, followed by a final group session.

Stepping stones sessions

Stepping Stones Triple P has been developed for parents of children with a developmental disability. Stepping Stones Triple P has been evaluated with real families and has been shown to work with children with intellectual and physical disabilities who have disruptive behaviour.

Primary Care Stepping Stones

A series of one to one sessions with a trained Triple P worker to address specific behaviours or issues and to help develop a wider range of positive parenting skills.

Standard Stepping Stones

A series of seminars consists of 8 to 10 sessions of an hour each, run by a trained Triple P practitioner.

Group Stepping Stones

There will be 6 group sessions where we meet for 2 hours. Your will also receive phone calls to answer questions, provide support and help you with any problems. The group is also a great way to meet other parents experiencing similar challenges. The course of sessions will take a couple of months to complete.

Benefits of the programmes

Many parents who have attended the Triple P sessions found they have learnt the following:

  • learnt skills to stay calm
  • realised they are not alone in the challenges they face
  • developed negotiation and listening skills
  • learnt how to plan ahead and set rules together
  • learning to problem solve when issues arise

Drop in facility

We have a confidential drop-in service for any parents or carers who have questions or need to talk about parenting.

This is available on a Friday from 9am to 1pm at the Bridge Child and Family Centre, Le Geyt Road, JE2 7NT.
