What to do with a passport when the holder has died

Cancelling the passport

When a passport holder dies, you should return their Jersey variant British passport or British passport for us to cancel it.

Complete the notification form and send it to us with:

  • the passport
  • a clear copy of the death certificate

Cut off the top right-hand corner of the passport before sending it so no one can use it.

We may ask to see the original death certificate.
