Clinical Investigations

We provide diagnostic investigations and assessments for inpatients and outpatients. These procedures cover a variety of medical specialties such as cardiology, gastroenterology neurology and respiratory.

Our services include:

Cardiology

  • ambulatory blood pressure monitor
  • ambulatory ECG monitors (ranges from one day to 3 months)
  • cardiac screening
  • contrast echocardiography
  • echocardiography
  • electrocardiogram (ECG)
  • exercise ECG test
  • pacemaker / ICD / Loop recorder implantation and follow up
  • transoesophageal echocardiography

Gastroenterology

  • ambulatory pH monitor
  • C13 urea breath test

Neurology

  • electroencephalography (EEG)
  • electromyogram (EMG)
  • evoked potentials
  • nerve conduction tests
  • tilt-table test

Respiratory

  • bronchial challenge testing
  • capillary blood gases
  • cardiopulmonary exercise test
  • gas diffusion / lung volumes
  • multi parameter sleep assessment
  • nebuliser provision
  • oximetry (including overnight)
  • provision and follow up of sleep apnoea (CPAP) 
  • spirometry

Our location

We are on the first floor of Gwyneth Huelin, accessed through the outpatients’ entrance of the General Hospital. This entrance is in Newgate Street, near Patriotic Street multi-storey car park. At the entrance, turn left and then go straight ahead into Corridor A. The lift and stairs to floor one are at the end of that corridor.

Opening hours

We are open from 8am to 5pm, from Monday to Friday. In an emergency out of hours, contact the General Hospital on +44 (0) 1534 442000 and ask for the Emergency Department.

Parking

Parking is available in Patriotic Street car park.

Disabled facilities

The nearest parking areas for disabled drivers is in front of the main building and Patriotic Street car park. There is a lift and wheelchair toilet facilities on the unit. 

Your appointment

We send an appointment letter for all appointments. It includes important information about your procedure and details of any preparation you need to take. It’s important you arrive on time or let us know if you’re going to be late.

We also send a text reminder the week before your appointment to the mobile number registered on the hospital system. It is important that this is kept up-to-date and can be amended or added by contacting the medical records department through switchboard +44 (0 )153 4444200.

If you can’t attend

If you can't keep your appointment, call us on +44 (0) 1534 444032. We can make alternative arrangements for you and offer your space to someone else.

Waiting times

The waiting time varies depending on the type of procedure(s) you need. We operate a cancellation list so we will contact you if we can offer you an earlier appointment.

Private patients

Jersey Private Patients offers a Clinical Investigations Private Patient Service within the General Hospital. Anyone wishing to utilise their private insurance or go private can contact the department on +44 (0) 01534 444032.

What to expect

When you arrive, check yourself in with the receptionist and take a seat in the waiting area. We'll call for you when we're ready and take you through to your appointment.

Your results

Your results are sent to your GP or the hospital consultant who referred you to us.
