Hospital appointments

Where to go

Most outpatient appointments take place in the Gwyneth Huelin Wing of the General Hospital. Some clinics may be held in other areas of the Hospital or at other sites, such as the Enid Quenault Health and Wellbeing Centre

Your appointment letter will tell you exactly where you need to go. If you’re not sure, call the number on your letter.

If you’re not sure where to go when you arrive for your appointment, ask at the main reception.

What to bring

Read your appointment letter carefully. It may ask you to bring certain items or visit another department for tests.

You should bring:

  • your appointment letter and any other information we’ve sent you
  • all the medications you’re taking including prescribed, over the counter, and herbal remedies
  • a small amount of money for a drink or snack
  • updated personal details if anything has changed, such as a new address or GP
  • any samples your doctor or nurse has asked for

Appointment times

We aim to see you as close to your appointment time as possible. Sometimes delays happen due to emergencies or patients needing more time with their clinician, so allow extra time for your visit.

Cancelling your appointment

If you need to cancel, call the number on your appointment letter as soon as possible. This helps us rearrange your appointment and offer your original slot to someone else.

Requesting your own follow-up appointments (PIFU)

We may offer you Patient-Initiated Follow-Up (PIFU) as part of your outpatient care. PIFU is a flexible way to manage your follow-up appointments. Instead of us booking them for you, you contact the service when you feel you need to be seen.

Find out more about PIFU at Patient-Initiated Follow-Up.

PIFU is for non-urgent care. If you need urgent help, call 999.

Accessibility and language support

We aim to make services accessible for all patients.

Disabled access

All patient entrances are suitable for wheelchairs. There are disabled parking spaces close to hospital entrances.

There are disabled toilets in key areas, including main reception.

Language support

An interpreting service is available for languages including Polish, Portuguese, French and Romanian. Contact us in advance so we can arrange this service for you.

If you have other communication or accessibility needs, use the contact details in your appointment letter so we can support you.
