About the Assisted Reproduction Unit (ARU)

We provide assistance and support for:

heterosexual couples having difficulty getting pregnant
those suffering from recurrent miscarriage
those requiring genetic and other advice about future conception and pregnancy
same sex couples
single women looking to conceive
surrogacy
social egg freezing
fertility preservation for those due to undergo cancer treatment
fertility preservation for those planning to undergo gender transition
one-off fertility checks

We investigate using the latest tests, following NICE clinical guidelines for fertility problems. We also have access to tests that cannot be done in Jersey, charges may apply.

Fertility investigations and support can be in the form of:

monitored follicle tracking and timing of intercourse
medication to induce ovulation in women who do not regularly ovulate
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) for single women and same sex couples
checking of fallopian tubes in the form of a hysterosalpingography (HSG)
early pregnancy support following fertility treatment or recurrent miscarriage
hormone treatment for men with abnormal endocrine problems affecting fertility

We also support patients travelling off-island for Advanced Assisted Reproductive Techniques (ART). Treatment options not provided in Jersey and that require self-funding include:

In-vitro Fertilisation (IVF) and related treatments
pre-implantation genetic screening
embryo replacement using donor egg or sperm
storage of sperm and eggs
surrogacy

We act as a satellite service for Lister Fertility Clinic and Bristol Centre for Reproductive Medicine. However, we're also able to assist you with your treatment should you choose an alternative clinic.

All care is aimed to give you the best treatment options and outcomes. There are set criteria for eligibility for funded treatment off-Island.

Referral Process

To access our service, your GP should refer you to our consultant.

If you're male, it can speed up the referral process if you have already booked a semen analysis via your GP. Your GP can then provide us with a detailed medical history.

Your first appointment

If applicable, we ask patients to attend as a couple. Usually your appointment only consists of a consultation. However, occasionally we offer female patients a transvaginal ultrasound scan. In a small number of cases, we may examine the male during this appointment.

If you need a translator, let us know as soon as possible so arrangements can be made before you attend our clinic.

Fees

All consultations and monitoring are covered by Government of Jersey for those who have been living in Jersey for a minimum of 6 months.

Charges would apply for medication used in the following circumstances:

if the female is over 42 years of age
egg freezing for social purposes
after three fresh IVF cycles (not including Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) cycles)

If you need treatment off-island and are not eligible for free treatment, this will need to be self-funded. Fees vary depending on the type of treatment and are provided on an individual basis.

Opening times

We are open Monday to Friday, from 8am to 4pm.

Clinics usually take place Monday to Friday, 8am to 12pm.

We're closed on public holidays.
