Request

Please can you tell me how many Police Officers in your force have been under investigation for perpetrating domestic abuse related incidents in each of the years 2017, 2016, and 2015.

Could you also let me know the outcome of these investigations?

Response

The Police definition of domestic abuse is:

Any incident of threatening behaviour, violence or abuse (psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional) between adults, aged 16 and over, who are or have been intimate partners or family members, regardless of gender and sexuality (family members are defined as mother, father, son, daughter, brother, sister and grandparents, whether directly related, in-laws or step-family).

Answering the specific question, in the time frame requested, the States of Jersey Police have six ‘Domestic incidents’ recorded where one or both of the parties was a serving police officer.

In each of the cases, there were no allegations of any physical or sexual violence, or any threatening behaviour. Each case involved circumstances surrounding marital breakdown and was resolved without any arrests or further police action.

For context, this is six reports from the 3752 domestic incident reports created by the States of Jersey Police for this period.

The States of Jersey Police take all allegations of domestic abuse seriously and each case will be recorded and assessed. The ongoing safety of the individuals involved is given the highest priority when deciding what if any, further action needs to be taken.
