Response

A

There are no audits being carried out on Government departments to identify efficiencies and no auditors have been contracted to work on this activity.

Ernst and Young are providing specific consultancy services. It is estimated that up to £1.44m will be paid to Ernst and Young for this work, subject to meeting certain performance criteria. This investment has contributed to the delivery of efficiencies in 2019 / 2020 and the development of the Efficiencies Plan 2020-2023 (R.130 / 2019) to deliver £40m of efficiencies across Government in 2020, including working with departments on related objectives.

B and C

The number of staff and number of days worked on the programme will vary according to need and across the life of the programme. In addition, a number of people will be working on this engagement in a part-time capacity. There is no record held for the number of days work undertaken or record of the number of staff working at any one point in time, with payments being based on work delivered and achievement of performance criteria.

D

The costs set out in the first part of this response represent the total costs of external support on the Efficiencies Programme in 2019.
